My Experience: I started reading and listening to an audiobook for It Ends With Us on 4/23/2022 and finished the audiobook on 4/26/2022. I finished reading on 4/28/2022. Fantastic read and audiobook! I loved the story of Lily both adult and teen. She’s a responsible character even at a young age. I enjoyed the banter between Lily and Ryle and Atlas as well as Lily and Atlas’s friends. I liked Ellen’s role in this book because I also loved watching Ellen’s shows long ago. I loved how the title played in this story. The twists was good and it came slow when readers least expected it. Lily’s thought process were excellent when she evaluated what was happening to her as each event occurred and then compared herself to her mom so vividly. I enjoyed the author’s note at the end of the book.
This book started with Lily, 23 as she sat on a ledge at the top of an apartment building. She’s having a quiet time reflecting on her father’s recent death and her disastrous eulogy. Her father was a mayor, owner of a real estate, and husband to a teaching assistant, but he beat his wife in the privacy of his own home. Without warning, someone barreled in to the rooftop and slammed the door. Not noticing her there, he let off steam by kicking the lawn chair nearby. Later as he was calming down, he began to notice her and asked her to get down from the ledge. He said just recently someone fell to their death from there. She got off and they got to exchange with each other some naked truths to comfort each other. Lily learned his name was Ryle and he’s almost done with school to become a neurosurgeon. He’s into one-night stands because he didn’t want to settle down. He wanted to focus on his career. Lily wanted to open a floral shop but worried people wouldn’t take her seriously due to her name and wasn’t interested in one-night stands. In between, Lily read through her diary entries from when she was 15. She wanted to remember her dad growing up to find something good in him to forgive him and the memories of her first love with a homeless. She thought she would not see Ryle again after that unplanned meeting on the rooftop but she was wrong.
It Ends With Us was well written and narrated. It’s fast paced and easy to read/listen. I loved the humor. There were some fun romance in this book. One part I didn’t like so much was how Ryle and Lily only address their injuries after they did it. It showed their priorities for romance exceeded their well-being. Atlas was definitely swoon worthy. Alyssa was a great friend. This book offered some great life advices. I liked the mother daughter relationship, especially without the dad around. I need another epilogue point 2 just for Lily and Atlas now that they have stopped swimming. The rave around this author and this book is real. It’s my first audiobook and read from the author and it won’t be my last. I do recommend everyone to read this book also!
