My Experience: I started reading Glimpse on 8/16/2018 and read it up to page 124 by 9/9/2018. I tried to get into this book but it’s just plain weird. The main character, Rain, is a bit depressing to read about. I do like the mystery to her missing day and the unknown of objects she received as well as the supernatural mysteries. The weird dreams and sights Rain sees got my adrenaline going. Her dreams are from weird to disturbing and same goes with other characters.

This book is told in the third person point of view following Lorraine (Rain) Thomas, 26, as she gets ready to go to a job interview. She’s a recovering drug addict and has been clean for 1016 days and counting. Her close friends are recoverees she met at the Narcotic Anonymous Meetings. Readers will also follow other point of views as well. She lives in a tiny apartment that is mostly too cold for comfort. On the train to the interview, she wants to review her study materials to pass the time but found out she forgot her reading glasses. The woman next to Rain offers her a pair of glasses. While studying, she notices from the corner of her eye a boy screaming or laughing, but when she look up for a proper look, the boy is no longer there as well as the old woman sitting next to her. Also when she arrives to the interview she found out that she was a day late and she couldn’t remember what happened during that missing day. Two other point of views are a guy on a skateboard and Alyson, Rain’s mom. This book is told in the present with Rain experiencing seeing things where others couldn’t to flashbacks of her attending Narcotic Anonymous meetings in the past. Through Rain’s flashbacks, dreams, memories, and inner thoughts, readers and Rain will be able to make sense of what is happening to her.

Glimpse is unlike any thrillers I have read before. It’s well written but the past and present timeline slow me down. I think the main character is an unreliable narrative because she doesn’t understand what’s going on with her. She’s seeing people on the streets in which she might have seen them in her dreams. Readers follow multiple point of views and they seem to experience the same weird stuffs as Rain but they don’t confide in each other, except Rain and Sticks. If you are looking for a weird read, this book is definitely for you!

Pro: fast paced some parts, dreams/nightmares, mysteries, supernatural, short chapters

Con: weird & depressing story

I rate it 3 stars!
