Hi Everyone!

I’m here to announce that I’m part of the Super Influencer Team. There is a series of books Odd Dot Books from Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group are coming out with called Outdoor School. We have been challenged with many outdoor activities using these books as guides. They are “interactive skill-building guides for exploring the world.” These 3 books are: Outdoor School: Hiking and Camping, Outdoor School: Animal Matching, Outdoor School: Rock, Fossil, and Shell Hunting with 2 small Outdoor School Essentials: Survival Skills and Animal Tracks, both 20 pages each along with 3 Outdoor School: Spots & Stickers for Birds, Plants, and Animals which are 24 pages each. The Outdoor School books has journal sections within the pages for explorers to take notes of what they see/experience. These books are designed for kids ages 10 to 14. Each book has 448 pages long. The books has a sturdy feel to the covers, like a leather bound journal. Kids can carry with them on their hike and take notes and not having to worry the cover will rip off because it feels like it’s made with good quality materials. The two essential guides are “visually explained in a waterproof and tearproof books that fits inside your pockets.” The three Spot & Stickers are a “collection of artful and colorful stickers inspired by vintage nature field guides.” Each sticker book has over 400 stickers and they are gorgeous!

The last time I went camping and actually slept under the stars in sleeping bags was with a group from middle school. I have attempted at taking my family hiking but we got lost once and had a ranger came out to rescue us so it was not very motivating to go again. With these books as guides, we are excited to start going outdoors more. My son is 9 and in third grade. This past year, due to COVID-19 pandemic, we were virtually homeschooled. These past few months his school has lessened the lessons to half days of learning. Currently, his school lessons cut short even more to only 25 minutes each class and there seems to be only 2 classes a day. With Outdoor School books, I am going to fill his open days with learning how to survive the outdoors and just enjoy nature more. Avoid the crowds during covid, hiking and being with nature is the best choice. We have been indoors a lot just to avoid the virus and screen time has increased. I saw a news video informed the impact of excessive screen time on kids could link to loss of social skills, behavior problems, irregular sleep, obesity, and violence. We have started incorporating these outdoor school books by visiting a botanical garden and did a 2-mile hike. My son and I bought different plants (flowers, cayenne peppers, tomatoes, and blueberries) to grow in our backyard. My son has started reading the Rock, Fossil, and Shell Hunting book and I’m going to dive into Animal Watching book!

I happened to unbox these books at a botanical garden (our first time visiting) so I got to take pictures of these books on top of a fallen tree. Look at this amazing leaf bench!

Before we ventured out, my son and I will read over these books. We have started hiking since last weekend 3/13 & 3/14 and we are planning to go on more hiking trails. Last week, we spotted a green butterfly during our walk.
