My Experience: I started reading The Deepest Roots on 7/31/2018 and finished it on 8/10/2018. This book has great humor! I love the friendship and diversity. I love the strong female lead. I like the hints of romance. I like Red and Jett, good guys out of a bunch of bad ones. I love the cover of this book. I like the mom comparison between Lux and Rome. I like Emmeline’s story.

This book is told in the first person point of view following Rome Galveston, 17, a part time mechanic who has too much pride to ask for help. Rome’s two best friends are Lux and Mercy, both 17. They all live in a rural town called Cottonwood Hollow in Kansas where the daughters are known to have unique talents, though it’s consider a curse to some. Rome survives through life with her mom barely having enough to eat. Lux lives in a home where others sees as a fairy tale, but nobody knows what truly happens behind closed doors. Mercy lives in a nice house but have the pressure to be perfect. They have been friends since forever and promise not to keep secrets from one another. When Rome discovers Lux’s secrets, trouble soon escalates and with their talents, it may not be enough to fix it all.

A well written book, The Deepest Roots is a story of small town, hardships, and talents. I enjoy reading Jett and Rome’s interactions. I like the bit of ghost story. Some parts of the story were lagging for me mainly on the extensive info of the friendship and the hardships they endured. I was expecting that with their talents, life would turn right side up for them instead of only to heal their bruises or fix something after it’s broken. I like the unexpected twist near the end. I recommend you all to give this book a read!
