Oak Mountain State Park

Hi Everyone!

How was your weekend? This post will be different from my normal book reviews. Yesterday, Sunday 4/29/18, my family and friends decided to go hiking and boat paddling at Oak Mountain State Park in Pelham, Alabama. It’s my first time visiting this state park. I loved it a lot!

This state park has a short trail that is excellent for kids because there are big cages with owls and albino vultures for us to look at. There is a small beach and kids can go to play in the sand and water. There are picnic tables and families can bring food to eat or cook BBQ. The entrance fee is $5 for adults and $2 for children. Families can rent boat paddling, canoe, and kayak to enjoy the vast water. There are cabin rental and more.

Both of our families hiked many trails without directions or plans. We hiked through from nature trail to yellow to orange. We might have ended up on a horse trail and a bike trail. (A map is recommended 🙂 because this state park is big, 10,000 acres big). I love all the creeks and I love all the greens. I love the birds singings and the clean fresh air. We hiked leisurely for less than 3 hours and we have no idea how to get back to the entrance. We had to call up and asked to be rescued. Since it’s our first time, we had no idea that we should pay attention to all those signs and numbers on the tree because that’s how a ranger can find us. I love the reliability of the rescue. Now I’m not so afraid to go hiking anymore. 🙂

Boat paddling is much fun too but right under the sun is super hot. Yesterday was around 75 degrees sunny so the weather was perfect for outdoor activities. I love the water view. We saw turtles during our boat paddling (rental $14/hr) and we saw a snake crawling around the tree bark during our hike. Our experiences at Oak Mountain State Park is a positive one and we will sure to come back again to enjoy more it because one time is just not enough 🙂

Hiking and being with nature is definitely great to stay active. This is my best record ever and I will sure do more of this in the future.

My legs are super duper sore today, but it’s all worth it. Nature is too beautiful to pass up.

xoxo,
Jasmine

Jasmine, you had such an exciting adventure. Albino vultures!? WHAT!? I had to look that up on the google. Also, the rescue service bit of this story is something else – what did they tell you when they located you? LOL Glad you and your fambam made it out safe! To many more learning adventures! 🙂
