Synopsis from Macmillan Publishers:

THE NEW TWISTY, GRIPPING READ FROM THE AUTHOR OF THE INSTANT NEW YORK TIMES AND USA TODAY BESTSELLING NOVELS BEHIND CLOSED DOORS AND THE BREAKDOWN

A young British couple are driving through France on vacation when they stop at a service station. He runs in to use the restroom, she stays in the car. When he returns, her car door has been left open, but she’s not inside. No one ever sees her again.

Ten years later he’s engaged to be married; he’s happy, and his past is only a tiny part of his life now. Until he comes home from work one day and finds his new fiancée sitting on their sofa turning something over in her fingers, holding it up to the light. Something that would have no worth to anyone else, something only he and she would know about, because his wife-to-be is the sister of his missing first love.

As more and more questions are raised, their relationship becomes strained. Has his first love somehow come back to him after all this time? Or is the person who took her playing games with his mind?

My Experience: I started reading Bring Me Back on 2/2/18 and finished it on 2/4/18. This book is a mind boggling read! It’s suspenseful and full of mysteries! I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough. I’m glad that there are more than one point of view even though I do enjoy following a guy’s POV in this case. I like the indication of who’s POV I’m reading about at each chapter. I like the mention of Russian dolls as I have forgotten about how cute they are. I like the village where Finn lives, Simonsbridge, with his walk to the market for bread and milk. It sounds so peaceful.

This book is divided into three parts. Part one is told in the first person point of view, following Finn McQuaid as he recalled a police statement he made 12 years ago about leaving the car to go use the restroom and only to find his girlfriend, Layla, disappears after he comes back. As the story move forward, readers will learn that Finn’s statement to the police doesn’t contain the whole truth. Finn’s views focused on his current life with Ellen and his past life with Layla. Part two, readers will follow first person point of view from Layla explaining her disappearance and reappearance all the while Finn is being haunted by his past. Part three, readers will follow Finn as he connects all the dots to find the truth, even when the truth is what he least expected.

This book is very well written. I was hooked from the first few pages. I like the author’s writing because it’s very inviting. I like how the mind games drives Finn’s mind to go on overdrive because reading this book, my mind is also put on overdrive. I can’t believe I didn’t recognize the hints sooner and only realized what happened at the end. Though, I can’t deny that’s due to convincing writing that throw me off path. This book is truly one to play with your mind and I highly recommend everyone to read it!

Pro: suspense, mystery, page turner, fast paced, mind boggling from thinking and calculating
