Always and Forever, Lara Jean Review

Synopsis from Edelweiss:

Lara Jean is having the best senior year a girl could ever hope for. She is head over heels in love with her boyfriend, Peter; her dad’s finally getting remarried to their next door neighbor, Ms. Rothschild; and Margot’s coming home for the summer just in time for the wedding.

But change is looming on the horizon. And while Lara Jean is having fun and keeping busy helping plan her father’s wedding, she can’t ignore the big life decisions she has to make. Most pressingly, where she wants to go to college and what that means for her relationship with Peter. She watched her sister Margot go through these growing pains. Now Lara Jean’s the one who’ll be graduating high school and leaving for college and leaving her family—and possibly the boy she loves—behind.

When your heart and your head are saying two different things, which one should you listen to?

My Experience: I started reading Always and Forever, Lara Jean on 9/17/17 and finished it on 9/26/17. This book is a cute read! I like the humor and the light hearted actions. Lara Jean is a goody goody. She follows rules, doesn’t do PDA, and delay sex until college. The only disappointment she ever caused her dad worry was traveling with her friend Chris to tour an out of state university without his knowledge. She puts her family first and when Peter takes Margot’s side, she loves him more. The three sisters get along very well and I like Margot’s pep talk with Lara Jean about giving the new college a chance. I like the family’s positive outlook and I like how family oriented Lara Jean’s dad is.

This book is told in the first person point of view following Lara Jean Song Covey, a senior who has been dating Peter Kavinsky for a year. At the start of the book, Lara Jean is happy being girlfriend to Peter, worry about getting accepted into the college of her choice, and on a mission to making the perfect chocolate chip cookie. This book recaps how her dad has been dating the neighbor Ms. Rothschild, Lara Jean’s older sister Margot is still overseas for school, and her younger sister Kitty is still sassy as ever. This book deals a lot with being the last year of high school and going separate ways to college. Margot coming back home to visit and bringing her new boyfriend to introduce. Lara Jean’s dad is taking his relationship to the next level. Peter is facing the difficult decisions whether to connect with his estranged dad. This book also focus a lot on family. They always remember their mom and how absent she is at Lara Jean’s graduation or at the news of her college acceptance.

This book is very well written. Lara Jean’s relationship with Peter is cute and fun filled. They joked a lot and care for each other’s well being. Often, Lara Jean is obsessed with Peter. Peter does many sweet things for Lara Jean. I laughed out loud at the truth or dare game on the school bus field trip to NY. I also like the mention of Lara Jean visiting antique shops and estate sales. I like the mention of Asian related here and there throughout the book like the cute socks and skincare from Korea because Korea truly create many cute things haha.. If you are looking for a light hearted read that will make you smile here and there and shed a tear or two, I would highly recommend you to read this series!

Pro: fast paced, easy to read, humor, cover, light hearted, family dynamic, chocolate chip cookies, Harry Potter reference,

Con: none

I rate it 4.5 stars!

I’m happy to know it’s so fluffy and family-oriented – I always love family stories! Peter and Lara Jean sound so adorable together, I’m sure I’ll adore the romance as well.
