July and August 2017 Wrap-Up

Hi Everyone! Here are the books I have read and reviewed in July and August 2017! A whopping total of 17 books with 1 DNF at 50%, 1 re-read, and 3 children’s books. How was your month? I cannot believe autumn is coming. I still have many books on my shelf to read as well as re-read. I feel guilty when I re-read books because I have ARCs waiting to be read and reviewed. Do you feel guilty as well? I find that I love to re-read because I understand the story a lot more than the first time around and my rating increased! How do you feel about re-read?

Ink and Ashes by Valynne E. Maetani. I rated it 5 stars!

Everything All At Once by Katrina Leno. I rated it 5 stars!

The Special Ones by Em Bailey. I rated it 5 stars!

Bugs from Head to Tail by Stacey Roderick and illustrated by Kwanchai Moriya. I rated it 5 stars!

The Last Mrs. Parrish by Liv Constantine. I rated it 4 stars!

A Gathering of Shadows by V. E. Schwab. I rated it 5 stars!

The Lost Causes by Alyssa Embree Schwartz and Jessica Koosed Etting. I rated it 5 stars!

Girls Made of Snow and Glass by Melissa Bashardoust. I rated it 5 stars!

The Thousandth Floor by Katharine McGee. I rated it 4 stars!

The Way Downtown: Adventures in Public Transit by Inna Gertsberg and illustrated by Mike Lowery. I rated it 5 stars!

Ivy and the Lonely Raincloud written and illustrated by Katie Harnett. I rated it 5 stars!

This Darkness Mine by Mindy McGinnis. I rated it 4 stars (but DNF’ed it)

Girl in Snow by Danya Kukafka. I rated it 4 stars!

The Hazel Wood by Melissa Albert. I rated it 5 stars!

The Night Circus by Erin Morgenstern. I rated it 5 stars! (re-read)

Copycat by Alex Lake. I rated it 5 stars!

The Dazzling Heights by Katharine McGee. I rated it 5 stars!

Did you read any books I read the last two months? How was your reading month? I’ll see you all next month and I hope everyone will have a fantastic reading month!

17 Books? That’s pretty impressive! I used to average about 7 books per month but I only read a total of 9 books in July and August 😦 The hazel wood! Ah, so lucky. Not surprised you rated it 5 stars tbh. It’s been getting great reviews!

I think reading a book again can be helpful because maybe the first time the information wasn’t really noticed, then the second time around it can be noticed more 🙂 Especially good to read a book after months or years and it reflects what is currently happening in your life. This Darkness Mine has an interesting title! I might check that out 🙂

The Darkness Mine is a great read, it’s just have the sad part of hospital stays that I can’t handle reading through. I hope you will enjoy the book! And yes, I do understand more reading the second time around too 🙂

wow, you had a great reading month. I am glad to see that you rated Girl in the Snow that high. I haven’t seen many good reviews about it though its one of my September reads.

Enjoy your books this month. Happy reading 🙂

Thanks. I think I rate high for Girl in Snow because the writing is very good. The book might have gotten low rating because it was depressing, but since I took my time and read it slowly, I see how things could happen.. hehe.. I hope the read is better for you too 🙂

I liked it up to 50%. I just don’t like to read sick patients in hospitals waiting for transplants or death. So there’s nothing wrong with the book or the writing, it just I can’t handle reading that type of stories. The synopsis didn’t mention that’s the kind of book it will be so I was caught off guard. If I can handle this type of sadness, I think the book will be a solid 4 or even 5 stars! 😊

I finished the series a few days ago. I had a really hard time getting into book 1 and my feelings didn’t change much in book 2, book 3 was finally the book when I really started caring about the characters. I’m really happy I finished the series, the plot was unique and the characters were well worth the hype. The author is not anywhere comparable to any of the BIG names of High Fantasy novels, but the plot alone was definitely something that stood out and will stay with me for a long time.

That’s great! and I’m glad you enjoyed the final book. I will have to start on it soon. I really like the series so far. Lila is definitely my favorite. She’s not afraid and likes a challenge so I like this series a lot 🙂

It looks like you had a great two months of reading! I can’t believe summer is coming to an end either, I feel like it just started. I agree on rereads I feel guilty a little bit with not getting to newer books, but then I fall back in love with the characters in the reread and don’t feel as bad. Have a great September!!

I hope you will enjoy your reads in September as well! And yes, I think it’s okay to indulge in one or two re-reads a month especially falling back in love with the characters again 😊

I used to only start re-reading books after reading the books I already had. Now with ARCs and an increase in my book buying habits, I think I’m going to start re-reading books whenever I need to. I think we as book bloggers need to remember to not feel guilty for re-reading an old favourite if that’s what we mentally need. Reading should never become a true obligation.

You’ve read so many books in the past two months! I’m envious! I feel like I don’t have enough time to do everything I want to do. Also, I haven’t read any of these books, so I’ll be looking to your reviews for recommendations. 🙂 As for re-reading, it takes a LOT for me to re-read a book. I have to seriously love it. I’ve only re-read the Harry Potter series (comfort food), the Bridal Quartet by Norah Roberts (more comfort food), and the Book Thief (I needed a second read because the first went too quickly).

I still haven’t read The Book Thief yet. I also wanted to re-read Harry Potter series. I have only re-read the first 2 books so far. You wouldn’t believe that most of the books I read are through lunch breaks, waiting lines, before bedtime and weekends. You can get a lot of reading done while waiting for something 🙂 I do recommend all the books with 5 stars on this list. If you click on the title, it will lead you to my reviews of each book. I hope you will be able to read some chapters on your next wait! 🙂
