2017 Mid-Year Freak Out

Hi Everyone!

So I have decided to join in the Mid Year Freak Out. I am truly freaking out as I realized how many series I have started but unable to finished it. At the bottom of this post are series I have started and needed to finish it. (There are still more series not listed!!). On the bright side, I have read 98 and posted reviews for 80 books on my blog since January 2017! That’s huge for me! Many books are kids books but I would say majority of the books are books I wanted to read. I focused a lot more on reading and reviewing this year so I am extremely behind on posting tags, awards, and memes. I am on a race against my TBR list, unfortunately, I read one and add two on my TBR list so the list continues to grow despite the many books I have read.

The best book you’ve read so far this year.

My REVIEW. This book is the whole package. It makes me cried and it makes me laughed harder. I saw on Twitter that they are planning a movie for it!

Best sequel of the year so far.

My REVIEW. This duology is unbelievably awesome reads! I rated both 5 stars!

New release you haven’t read yet but want to.

I am re-reading book 1, A Darker Shade of Magic, right now to get ready for my upcoming buddy read on book 2 because I love this series so much! Lila is my favorite character in book 1!

Most anticipated release of the second half of 2017.

I really wanted to read this book! The cover is cute even though I’m afraid of snakes.

Biggest disappointment of the year so far.

My REVIEW. I didn’t enjoy this book as much as Aristotle and Dante (My REVIEW). This book just goes on endlessly for me.

Biggest surprise.

My REVIEW. This year I was introduced to Kasie West by the first book I read from her, By Your Side and I enjoyed how easy it is to read and how often it makes me smile that I set out to read as many books from her as I can. To this day, I have read 4 books from Kasie West. There’s the newest soon-to-be released Lucky in Love and an older release On the Fence. I loved them all!

Favorite new author (debut or new to you).

I love her writing after reading A Darker Shade of Magic. I have gone on to read This Savage Song and I loved it!

Newest fictional crush.

Quentin from Disruption & Corruption by Jessica Shirvington. He’s awesome!

Newest favorite character.

Delilah (Lila) Bard from A Darker Shade of Magic. She’s brave, independent, and have the want to live. “I’m not going to die, not ’till I’ve seen it. Seen what? Everything.”

Book that made you cry.

My REVIEW. This book is a fantastic read! It makes you care for others a little more 🙂

Book that made you happy.

I loved this read! My REVIEW. It’s real life relatable about job and making it in life on your own.

Favorite book to movie adaptation you’ve seen so far this year.

My REVIEW. I like reading the book more than watching the Netflix shows. I only saw 1.5 episodes. This is the only movie related to book I have seen this year.

Favorite review you’ve written this year.

My REVIEW. I love Children’s picture books and its illustrations. I would say I love all of the picture book reviews I have written. Look under category 5-Star Books for a list of titles! I wish I can draw! 🙂 The stories are super interesting too! I have to admit that I love these books a bit more than my son hahaha..

Most beautiful book you bought or received this year so far.

My REVIEW. Graphic Novel is new to me this year and I am loving it, especially Japanese manga because the characters are so pretty to look at 🙂

Books you need to read by the end of this year.

I have read Legend and I want to read Prodigy and Champion by Marie Lu
I have read A Darker Shade of Magic and I want to read A Gathering of Shadows and A Conjuring of Light by V.E. Schwab.
I have The Midnight Star and Caraval on my nightstand to read next.
I have read ACOTAR and I need to read ACOMAF and ACOWAR by Sarah J. Maas.
I have read Shadow and Bone and I need to read Siege & Storm and Ruin & Rising by Leigh Bardugo.
I have read This Savage Song and I want to read Our Dark Duet by Victoria Schwab.
I have read Six of Crows and I want to read Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo.
I have read Gilded Cage and I want to read Tarnished City by Vic James.
I have read To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before and P.S. I Still Love You and I need to read Always and Forever, Lara Jean by Jenny Han.
I have read An Ember in the Ashes and I want to read A Torch Against the Night.
I want to start The Bone Season series but I’m afraid to stop in the middle again because the series is still in progress.

I really need to stop starting a new book series that’s for sure!! I still have a few other series to finish out but at this point, I will either skip it or go back to re-reading it.

How was your mid-year freak out? I hope you all will be able to read the books you want to read!

xoxo,
Jasmine

Amazing answers!! I have a couple that are the same as yours 😀
I added The Art of Feeling and My not so Perfect Life since you liked them so much! I never saw them before but from your reviews, I do think I will enjoy them a lot!!
And you have some books in your to read pile for this year that I still have to get to >.< Hopefully some this year still! Siege & Storm and Ruin & Rising, Always and Forever, Lara Jean and A Torch Against the Night and I am also interested in starting The Bone Season but it's getting quite big and it's not even done yet so probably not this year for me! But you definitely need to read Our Dark Duet and Crooked Kingdom! I love them! I hope you enjoy them!! 😍

Thanks Joana! I am waiting to read The Bone Season as well.. maybe next year. I’m glad you liked Our Dark Duet and Crooked Kingdom. I hope you will get through more books the rest of the year too 🙂

I have had such a hard time lately with series, too! It’s such a commitment to start a series. Because you know if you love the first book, you have to read the second and the third. So by starting one book, you’re basically committing to read all of them. And I have a problem with series, too, because if I don’t read them one right after the other, I forget a lot of details. So if I read the first book and wait a few months to read the second and third, I have forgotten a lot of stuff. It’s so annoying! haha 😀

Yeah.. I get what you mean 🙂 Yet that doesn’t stop me from reading them because they all sounds so good 🙂 Do you wait until all books are out before you read a series? Otherwise, we usually have to wait like a year before the second one comes out haha..

Oh I feel your pain. I have told myself that I will not start another series until I get at least half caught up on the ones I already have started. I’m really good at reading the first one only then never going back. There are just so many good books.

Nice post, Jasmine! I love the Shades of Magic series! Can’t wait to see what you think of A Gathering of Shadows. It took a while for her to grow on me, but Lila is also one of my favorite characters! Schwab is such a talented author. I can’t wait to read her other works. And I’ll have to get my hands on a Kasie West book soon! P.S. I Like You sounds so cute! 😀 Good luck on reading all those wonderful books!

HOW have you read so many books!! And posted 80 reviews?? Teach me your ways Jasmine! The Hate U Give is one of my favorites I’ve read this year too! I’ve also read my first Victoria Schwab book this year and I am now in love with her books.

Thanks hehe.. I read at least 2 books at a time. 1 ebook and 1 physical and read every chance I get like waiting at a doctor’s office. If a book I’m not interested in, I don’t waste time trying to finish it. I move on to a new one and come back to that one later. I also read picture books for my son and review them. The difference in reviews are the picture books I have re-read for my son. I didn’t realize when I was writing the blog post, but Goodreads must have counted as one book read for the re-read date I added in. 🙂 I would say there may be 25 picture books out of the 80 I reviewed. 🙂 I’m glad you liked THUG and Schwab too 🙂

Wow…all I can say is that this is a really impressive list to say the least. To read 98, and post 80 reviews is absolutely astonishing. I haven’t even read 20% of that amount I think this year lol. Hope you will manage to reach your goals, but as I said I am already very impressed 😀
