My Experience: I started reading Moe & Malaya Visit the Nurse on 4/20/17 as a story time for my 5 year-old son and we finished it on the same day. We read it again on 5/7/17. This book is awesome! I love books that motivate kids to get excited about doing something when they grow up. This book introduces kids about nursing, the different types of nurse, and how boys can be a nurse too!

In this book, readers will follow Moe as he gets ready to visit his cousin and best friend Malaya. As he arrived to Malaya’s house, he joined Malaya and her dad to visit the nurse because Malaya has been sick all week and she’s going in for a check up. Moe is excited because he thinks going into the nurse’s office is an adventure. At the nurse’s office, Moe learns that boys can be a nurse too and that the strange instrument the nurse puts into Malaya’s mouth is actually called a thermometer and it is used to measure Malaya’s temperature. He’s so excited to learn about an odd necklace which turns out to be a stethoscope that lets him hears his heart beat. I love that a visit to the nurse becomes a learning opportunities for kids. 

This picture book is definitely a great read for children by themselves, with family, or in the classroom. I love Moe’s excitement about an adventure. I love the nurse’s office’s willingness to explain and teach kids new things. This is my first time reading a book with foreign language, especially indigenous themed. I love the few foreign words mixed into the story, like ataata means father. I love that Moe is such a kid that he still puts his shoes on backwards when he gets excited because my son can relate to this little error. This book is truly the best for children and I highly recommend it to everyone!
