Sashi the Scared Little Sheltie Review

Synopsis from the Author’s Website:
Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie is the true story about a little dog who loses her home for only doing what comes naturally to a pup bred to be a herder—she chases everything that moves.
She doesn’t understand why she is left at an animal shelter and, because she cowers in a corner of her cage, potential adopters pass her by. Sashi is helped by Sheltie Rescue and is adopted into a home where she blossoms into the dog she was meant to be.

About: Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie is a children’s picture book written by Linda Greiner and illustrated by Morgan Spicer. It was published on 1/2/2015 by Brown Books Kids, hardcover, 32 pages. This book is for ages 3 to 10, grades P to 4. There are 3 books to this series: book 1 is called Sashi the Scared Little Sheltie, book 2 is called Sashi Adopts a Brother, and book 3 is called Sashi and the Puppy Mill Girl. Please read more about the author below. My Experience: I read Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie for my 5 year-old son as a bedtime story on 1/24/17 and finished it that same night. We both really loved this book! We don’t have any pets at home and it’s the first time for my son to learn about having a pet and the need to train them. This book is about a Shetland Sheepdog, also known as Sheltie named Sashi, who was living with a family but they didn’t know they were supposed to teach her what’s right and wrong. Sashi barks at everyone and chases at everything that caught her attention. She is deemed a bad dog by the first owner and is then sent to the rescue center/shelter. This bad experience caused Sashi to back herself away. Sashi is then adopted into a new family who gave her lots of love, care, and taught her to sit, come, and check it out that soon Sashi becomes a champion.

I highly recommend this book for kids of all ages. Learning how to care for another being will only help your kid to becoming a patience and loving person. I like that this book has the music sitting game that kids can relate. I like that it focuses on people going to a rescue shelter to adopt an unwanted animal instead of buying new. I also liked the facts about Sheltie at the end of the book. Sashi is in fact based on the real Sheltie named Sashi. Check out the author’s other website Here to learn about the real Sashi. My son and I also loved the illustrations. He shouted out 5 stars for this book and helped me picked out his favorite pictures for my blog post 🙂

Pro: training a pet, illustration, positive outcome, rescue shelter, caring for an animal

Con: none

I rate it 5 stars!

About the Author:
linda
Linda Greiner fell in love with Shelties when doing research on what type of dog to get for her sixteenth birthday. Many years later she decided to adopt instead of buying from a breeder and contacted the Shetland Sheepdog Placement Services of New Jersey. Sashi was her first experience with a severely traumatized dog. With love, patience, positive reinforcement training, and the Rescue’s support, they were able to overcome Sashi’s problem behaviors.

Linda started fostering for SSPSNJ in 2003. Each dog has had a tale to tell. She is currently working on a new book and plans to create a series about Sashi and the rescues they have known and loved. A portion of the proceeds from Sashi, the Scared Little Sheltie and Sashi Adopts a Brother will benefit Sheltie Rescue.

Thanks Irena! We already read it two times haha It is definitely a book for everyone needing to know how to care for their pet. A pet is just like a baby. They need to be taught and they need attention. Play with them and give them rewards for obeying rules. Dogs are a lot like humans 😊
