About: Anna and the French Kiss is a fiction novel written by Stephanie Perkins. It was published on 12/2/2010 by Dutton Juvenile, 372 pages. The genres are young adult, romance, contemporary, chick lit, realistic fiction, etc. There are 3 books in this series: book 1 is Anna and the French Kiss, book 2 is Lola and the Boy Next Door, and book 3 is Isla and the Happily Ever After. The setting of this book is in Paris, France.
My Experience: I started reading Anna and the French Kiss on 10/7/16 and finished it on 10/13/16. I like the start of the book. It’s very humorous and I can relate, especially of my knowledge of Paris. I really enjoy the humor in this book and I caught myself laughing on a few occasions. This book’s atmosphere is light and easy going. There are mean girls and high school drama but it was focused more on friendships and family. Added bonus is going to school abroad. Reading this book, I learned that it’s better to express our feelings and either face acceptance or rejections than to keep it bottled up inside and pretend. I also liked learning the slang Parisians terms: Shite, Pissed, and what else.. hehe..
Anna Oiliphant is a high school senior from Atlanta, GA. Her parents are, hmm.. interesting to read about by her description. This book follows entirely on her point of view. She moves to Paris to attend School of America in Paris (SOAP) without knowing how to speak the language. I like following her thinking at the start of the book but I feel frustrated with her stubbornness as the story goes on. Her complaints are over the top and her romance is abrupt. Her jealousy is uncalled for. Her imagination on potential love runs wild.
Etienne St. Clair is a handsome American with an English accent. The book might have repeatedly described how beautiful he is a thousand times, mostly by Anna. I would label him as a player or womanizer any day! His character is okay in this book. His parents is hmm.. another interesting read. He’s short, bite his nails, and afraid of height and yet.. charisma and good looks wins all.Pro: humor, easy going, going abroad for school, fast paced,
Con: Meredith never found out what happened between Amanda and Anna. At least acknowledged it. As a parent, I don’t know if I love the concept of parents being put down so much.
I rate it 4.5 stars!

Are the parents put down that much? Can you be a little more specific aber how or why ? 😀 Some parents are just not cool but is it a lottle over the top here?

They are comparing who’s parents are the worst. How they are embarrassed by their parents. And what they actually do is really not that bad at all. One dad is a control freak and if you let him control you then it’s awful but if you are clever enough and work around his controlling grip then you can still take your control back. Another dad writes romance books with love and death due to cancer and she feels embarrassed the way her dad gets rich. I guess jokes often criticize someone right? And I guess it’s normal for teenagers to feel embarrassed by their parents. It ruins their chances to impress or to look good to their peers. The book is still a good read though. Jokes on the parents are better than dirty jokes 🙂

Wow that is kind of over the top and unecessary. But I agree, those are still better than dirty jokes 😀

I’m so glad you enjoyed this! Anna and the French Kiss is probably one of my favorite contemporaries. I loved the whole setting and it made me want to go to Paris. Wouldn’t it be awesome if that school actually existed? Not that it matters since I’m too old to enroll now 😂. Do you plan on reading the other two books in the series? Great review! 😊

I’m too old to attend SOAP too.. hehe.. And I do want to go to Paris after the read because I want to eat up all of those scrumptious sweets! I do plan on reading the remaining books but not right away. I need to shorten my list of books on NetGalley hehe

I know right? All the sweets they talk about made me hungry. I know how that feels haha. Well I hope you enjoy the other ones whenever you do get to them! 😊

I think I read this book 2 years back. It was fun and lighthearted. Can’t wait for your review of Isla, although I liked Anna better. Are you going to read the next book, too? 😊

I feel like I am reading the first book of every series out there.. so much hype and I just couldn’t wait.. I am thinking to wait out on reading the remaining books in this series. I’m glad of your comment though, if Lola or Isla is not your favorite then it’s okay to wait 🙂

Are they connected somehow? It seems the characters are different.

The main characters are different. In the second one, Cricket and Etienne were friends (if I remember correctly) the third one was about Isla who had a smaller role in Anna’s book. And of course Anna and Etienne are in books 2 and 3. And the first two couples have appearances in the last book.

Everyone seems to be reading this book! I had best get on the bandwagon. I’m glad you enjoyed it– but I can understand the frustrating about parents being portrayed in a negative light. Do you think that this is because of Anna’s character? I know high-school Jackie was not a huge fan of her parents…

You’re right… Must be the teenager thing to talk low of their parents 😂 It’s a fun read and wraps up nicely in the end so you should read it soon 😊 if you need a chick lit break hehe

Can’t wait to read what you think. I like reading your reviews on books I already read because I can understand better of what you are saying. Your writing is really smooth & velvety 😊 I hope to read Passenger by Alexander Bracken soon so I can read your review in detail 😊

Well…both are good…but I can’t say that they are better or worse…they are all kinda different, and Stephanie has done an amazing job by writing about three different kinds of romantic relationships…
I think you should try them out, because I’m enjoying them…and if u liked the first one then you also may like the second ones…😊
And no, I haven’t written any reviews… 😊
