The Winner’s Kiss Review

About: The Winner’s Kiss is a fiction novel written by Marie Rutkoski. This book was published on 3/29/2016 by Farrar Straus Giroux, 484 pages. There are 3 books in The Winner’s Trilogy: book 1 is The Winner’s Curse, book 2 is The Winner’s Crime, and book 3 is The Winner’s Kiss. The genres are fantasy, young adult, and romance. This author has a Ph.D from Harvard University. Much respect for her, to write good books and to be educated by the best school.

My Experience: I started reading The Winner’s Kiss on 8/30/16 and finished it on 9/4/16 at 2am. This book seems to have the best of both worlds: intensity and humor. Roshar, the eastern prince, played a big role in this book. I like his character, very positive and easy going, despite everything else. Kestrel is smart, brave, and hold a lot of self control in all 3 books. In this last book, she more than made up for what may appear selfishness in other books as she gives herself the right to make decisions on the behalf of other people. She continues to show what a strategist she is by coming up with ideas on how to win the war and others respected her decisions.

I like Arin in all 3 books. His character is driven and his love is unconditional. I don’t know if there is any man in this world who can handle so much rejections and still push back in full force. I’m glad he didn’t give up and didn’t go crazy trying to solve the many puzzles he is left to unravel to understand the lies given to him. This book lacked the emperor and Kestrel’s father’s perspectives so I feel like they are not portrait as clever in this book as in the second book. Overall, the book is still a great read and the series is excellent. I like that the series start with a Bite and Sting game and end with a Bite and Sting game. The romance in the entire series is very light so the series is suitable for any age.

Pro: war strategies, humor, friendship, love, beliefs, not giving up, cleverness, careful thinking

Con: lack the enemy’s perspective, the eastern queen shouldn’t be so quiet and she should fight for love if Roshar claimed that his life is miserable if the queen doesn’t get what she wants. Why does she lose love so easily?
