About: Clockwork Princess is book 3 of The Infernal Devices series written by Cassandra Clare. The Infernal Devices series has 3 books: book 1 is Clockwork Angel, book 2 is Clockwork Prince, and book 3 is Clockwork Princess. This series is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, which consists of 6 books. This prequel series is based in London, 1878. The genres are fantasy, young adult, paranormal, and romance. Clockwork Princess was published on 9/5/2013 by Walker Books, 567 pages. There is a third series called The Dark Artifices and these three series all revolve around the Shadowhunter world.
My Experience: I started reading Clockwork Princess on 8/19/16 and finished it on 8/23/16. I must say, I am disappointed in this book. I was expecting the final book in the series to be an awesome read, but it was not for me. It seems after Clockwork Prince, I thought Consul Wayland was on Charlotte’s side, even though he allows Charlotte’s leadership to be tested. But in this book, he’s a different person altogether. I thought that he was being compromised by the enemy and therefore, acted so wickedly. I don’t like the fate of Jem, even though it is said that it was his choice. He wants to be married so bad, but to have his ending like that, I could not read the book anymore. Literally and physically, I put the book down and no longer interested to read any further, after he comes to see Tessa one last time. I hadn’t realized how much I enjoy Jem’s character until his ending turns south. I didn’t like Gabriel Lightworm (Lightwood) at first, but Cecily, a wise girl, influenced him to be better and his character turns out ok. Sophie has a good ending and I’m glad for her, even though I skip reading the details to her ascension. Bridget’s songs, since I didn’t read the last 50 pages of the book, I don’t know why it was not mentioned earlier about why her songs were so morbid. This book is all seriousness and hardly any fun. This whole series, I like the second book most. I don’t think I will want to collect this series. I would recommend the read, at least the first two books of the series.
Update: I pick the book back up on 8/26/16 to read through the remaining pages. I’m glad the end wrap up the series nicely but the wait is too long. I do like Will a lot more towards the end. He is so good with words! I am still sad for Jem because he has to wait so long to have his desires fulfilled. On the side note, I always wanted to live forever as in immortal so I can see the world change but like Tessa, life can be so lonely when all your loved ones are no longer there with you.
Pro: finally a reason for Tessa’s necklace
Con: more serious; less jokes, so many correspondences, so many of Bridget’s songs without her explanations for her songs, repetitions of previous books – Cecily’s reasons for coming to London – and those farewell sayings, not enough witty banter, Jem’s ending, long book tends to repeat a lot I guess
I rate it 4 stars!

YOU HAVE TO READ THE ENTIRE BOOK!!! THERE IS MORE ABOUT JEM!!! Jasmine you are missing out on some huge stuff in those last pages! I am sorry you didn’t enjoy this book. 😦 I certainly loved it! It was more serious, and I agree that the Consul’s character changed completely (I still don’t understand why). I tried to ignore that, even though I got so upset everytime I had to read one of his letters.

I finally & completely finished reading Clockwork Princess. That’s a long wait for a happy ending. Have to read up to 556 pages to hear about Jem. I can’t wait that long!! Haha Thanks for making me pick the book back up. It’s worth it, but still, 150 years later is such a LONG wait!

Ik, but it made me feel so much better to know that now Tessa and Jem both had someone 🙂 they aren’t alone and they really are good together

Too bad you didn’t enjoy this book that much! I remember loving it, but as I read your review I realized I forgot so much what was going on in that book. I think I should reread it at some point to refresh my memory.

I guess I was expecting a lot since others have told me that the third book is best out of all. The way they described the silent brother doesn’t sound ideal yet Jem becomes that just to live. But earlier he said he doesn’t want to live without Tessa and silent brother can’t ever be married so that really defeat the purpose to live. I might give the book a second chance, sometimes reading it the second time I may discover I miss something 😊

Nice review! Everyone tells me to start with this series instead of TMI. I started TMI months ago and still haven’t finished it. I was hoping this one would be more engaging, but it seems to have its share of mixed reviews. 🙂

Sorry that my review couldn’t help you decide whether to read it or not.. Hehe but I did liked the second book best.

Haha! 🙂 Your review is really good. I really like how you set it up. You really got me thinking about things with this series. I’m so undecided. I own TMI so I thought maybe I should read that first, but since you can read TID without reading it, I was on the fence about just going for it.

Clockwork Angel is one of the few books I’ve ever DNF-ed, and I might give it another try soon. After the first twenty pages or so, I just didn’t feel connected with the characters or the story (but I felt the same way about the Harry Potter series before giving it another few tries, and now I’m a huge Potterhead so you never know)! Great review. xx

It’s too bad you didn’t like it! I agree that I wish there had been more humor, but I thought it wrapped up the series nicely.

Yeah, I think I would have enjoyed a little more had I continue with the series early on. I read Aristotle & Dante and it left me on a high happy note, that when I start to read Clockwork Princess, all the seriousness just bored me. That’s good that you liked the book though. Have you read TMI series?

Of course! I didn’t really like City of Heavenly Fire though, it felt a little rushed. The first three were amazing.
