Clockwork Princess Review

About: Clockwork Princess is book 3 of The Infernal Devices series written by Cassandra Clare. The Infernal Devices series has 3 books: book 1 is Clockwork Angel, book 2 is Clockwork Prince, and book 3 is Clockwork Princess. This series is a prequel to The Mortal Instruments series, which consists of 6 books. This prequel series is based in London, 1878. The genres are fantasy, young adult, paranormal, and romance. Clockwork Princess was published on 9/5/2013 by Walker Books, 567 pages. There is a third series called The Dark Artifices and these three series all revolve around the Shadowhunter world.

My Experience: I started reading Clockwork Princess on 8/19/16 and finished it on 8/23/16. I must say, I am disappointed in this book. I was expecting the final book in the series to be an awesome read, but it was not for me. It seems after Clockwork Prince, I thought Consul Wayland was on Charlotte’s side, even though he allows Charlotte’s leadership to be tested. But in this book, he’s a different person altogether. I thought that he was being compromised by the enemy and therefore, acted so wickedly. I don’t like the fate of Jem, even though it is said that it was his choice. He wants to be married so bad, but to have his ending like that, I could not read the book anymore. Literally and physically, I put the book down and no longer interested to read any further, after he comes to see Tessa one last time. I hadn’t realized how much I enjoy Jem’s character until his ending turns south. I didn’t like Gabriel Lightworm (Lightwood) at first, but Cecily, a wise girl, influenced him to be better and his character turns out ok. Sophie has a good ending and I’m glad for her, even though I skip reading the details to her ascension. Bridget’s songs, since I didn’t read the last 50 pages of the book, I don’t know why it was not mentioned earlier about why her songs were so morbid. This book is all seriousness and hardly any fun. This whole series, I like the second book most. I don’t think I will want to collect this series. I would recommend the read, at least the first two books of the series.

Update: I pick the book back up on 8/26/16 to read through the remaining pages. I’m glad the end wrap up the series nicely but the wait is too long. I do like Will a lot more towards the end. He is so good with words! I am still sad for Jem because he has to wait so long to have his desires fulfilled. On the side note, I always wanted to live forever as in immortal so I can see the world change but like Tessa, life can be so lonely when all your loved ones are no longer there with you.

Pro: finally a reason for Tessa’s necklace

Con: more serious; less jokes, so many correspondences, so many of Bridget’s songs without her explanations for her songs, repetitions of previous books – Cecily’s reasons for coming to London – and those farewell sayings, not enough witty banter, Jem’s ending, long book tends to repeat a lot I guess
