About: Multnomah Falls is located on the beautiful Columbia Gorge Historic Highway in Oregon, USA. The water of the Falls drops 620 feet from its origin on Larch Mountain. Multnomah Falls is the second highest year-round waterfall in the nation. At the base of the waterfall lays a historic Multnomah Falls Lodge, which was built in 1925 by A.E. Doyle to provide fine northwest cuisine with a panoramic view from your table. There is also a Larch Mountain hiking trail, a total of around 7 miles, to the top where visitors will be rewarded with a spectacular view of the Cascade Mountains and the Columbia River Gorge.
My Experience: I flew to Oregon in September 2010 to visit my friend and she took me to tour Multnomah Falls. The road trip to the falls was impressive with river and mountain views. I didn’t do serious hiking that day, but did walk up to the bridge to have a closer look at the Falls. I can’t image the amazing view from the very top of the Falls. I may need a full day to have that experience: 7 miles hike & views from the top of the mountain. The hiking trail is wide enough for 2 persons and steep enough to get you breathing. The trail surrounds the mountain which makes hiking amazing because you enjoy the view and forget that you are actually exercising.
