About: “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff… and it’s all small stuff,” written by Richard Carlson, Ph.D. He’s also the co-author of “Handbook for the Soul”. Dr. Carlson is a lecturer and a consultant on stress and happiness. This is a book that shows you how to keep from letting the little things in life drive you crazy. The author of this best-selling book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff” dies at age 45 in 2006 after falling ill while on his way to New York to promote his new book at the time, “Don’t Get Scrooged.” This book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff…” have 100 chapters and a total of 246 pages. Each chapter is one to three pages and is an easy reading.
My Experiences: I saw this book, “Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff… simple ways to keep the little things from taking over your life”, on the reading list of a CEO at my company and decided to check it out at my local library. It is exactly what I need. I am so stressed out and often on little things. I envy those people who always take every problems or situations lightly and see the positive side out of things. I definitely don’t want a heavy heartache or headache on anything I encounter and reading this book really helps. I love this book and recommend to everyone who wants to have an easy normal life.
My favorite topics in the book are: First chapter, Don’t Sweat the Small Stuff. A stranger cut in front of us in traffic, for many of us, we don’t let it go and instead we play out an imaginary confrontation in our mind and many of us even tell someone else about the incident later. This is really small stuff to sweat our anger on. We should try to have compassion for the person and recall how painful it is to be in such an enormous hurry. This way, we can maintain our own sense of well-being and avoid taking other people’s problems personally. Chapter 69, Be Happy Where You Are. I love this chapter. Many of us postpone our happiness and convince ourselves that “someday we’ll be happy.” We tell ourselves that we’ll be happy when our bills are paid, when we get out of school, get our first job, a promotion, after married, have kids, and etc. Then we feel frustrated that the kids aren’t old enough then we have to deal with teenagers. Meanwhile, life keeps moving forward. In the end, the truth is, there’s no better time to be happy than right now. If not now, then when? Please buy this book or borrow at your local library. It’s an excellent book with many great tips to keep your life simpler and less stressful. Let’s be happy! J
